Certified Personal Trainer Program

Become a Certified Personal Trainer in this comprehensive program offered through World Instructor Training Schools (WITS) at College of DuPage. Get all the information needed to start an exciting fitness career & become a Certified Personal Trainer.  Turn your fitness passion into a profession with the ONLY IN-PERSON hands on practical skill labs in the industry.  The scheduled virtual lectures are led by our five star teacher.  Topics will cover 15 hours on anatomy, exercise physiology, kinesiology, biomechanics, nutrition and more.  The in-person practical skill labs allow you to role-play and review essential “hands on skills” to master assessing clients, stretching, warm ups/cool downs, exercise analysis and programming design.  The course includes the national test vouchers ($450 value) and extra access to our online video enhanced CPT course to review lectures and labs at no extra cost!  W.I.T.S. 30-hour optional employer internship (Level 2 Certification) helps walk you into jobs who very much value our unique certification.  We are all about your success and the tools we give you will help you reach that goal. NCCA Accredited program. Virtual instruction begins Feb. 1 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Thursdays meet at local health club. The Certified Personal Trainer Cours is in a hybrid format. Virtual lectures plus in-person practical skills labs at local health club are included.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand and describe basic anatomy, kinesiology and exercise physiology
  • Assess an individual's level of fitness using ACSM guidelines
  • Design and customize exercise programs
  • Demonstrate proper execution of resistance, cardio-respiratory and flexibility exercises
  • Identify and demonstrate at least one strength exercise for every major muscle group
  • Explain ACSM and AHA recommendations for cardiovascular exercise

Level 1 Certification is awarded after passing both written and practical exams and obtaining a current adult CPR/AED.

Level 2 Certification is awarded after successfully completing your Level 1 exams and finishing the 30 hour internship. Students will be given a list of participating sites to complete internship. Alternate locations may be approved through WITS. There is no additional cost for this valuable internship experience.

Required textbook not included:  Fitness Professional's Handbook 7th Edition Author: Howley, must be purchased by the student. An e-book format available.

Lifestyle Wellness Coaching

This unique Lifestyle Wellness Coaching Certification course will show your client that providing specific insights into their individual wellness is just as vital to their long-term success as creating an exercise program. Our Lifestyle Wellness Coaching course will enable you, as a trainer, to communicate, motivate, and support your clients in new innovative ways towards reaching their goals. This self-paced online-mentored class helps you develop the personal skills you need to lead your clients, while opening new revenue streams outside of just exercise training sessions! Your clients will achieve long-term fitness and lifestyle wellness goals for likely the first time ever. Provide your clients with personal awareness techniques that will create new possibilities and help them overcome previous limitations. Lifestyle Wellness Coaching Certification includes 12 hours of video instruction, drills and testing. Group Fitness Instructor Certification

This online self-paced mentored certification course helps you to develop skills for leading any group in an exciting safe routine. Lectures cover the essentials of group exercise history, music, choreography, safety techniques, as well as basic applied science specifically relating to group strength, cardiovascular, muscular and flexibility. Practical labs expand into skill development for functional training, sports conditioning, circuit, boot camp, dance, step, kickboxing and equipment-based class techniques. A mind body class overview in Yoga and Pilates caps it off so you can incorporate this knowledge into sections of your classes. The national exams for the certification credential is included with this program. (32 Hours over 6 weeks) Required textbook not included.

Medical Fitness Specialist

This 30-hour certification (30 CECs) is an advanced certification for fitness professionals and other types of health occupations like therapists. If you are ready to take the next step in your career and offer new services to a wide variety of clients, then this program will prepare you to succeed. You will learn in this challenging exercise course the core essentials of helping clients with specialized chronic illness. You will be able to practically apply the knowledge in programming safe and effective workouts. Nothing is more rewarding than working with the medical community to do great things for people with special medical issues. This MFS Level 1 Certification includes a written core exam and a practical case scenario exam to demonstrate operational safe and effective competency. Required textbook not included.
