The American Sign Language Interpreting (ASLI) Certificate and Associate in Applied Science degree programs utilize a limited enrollment admissions process. Both programs require you to complete the admission requirements stated in the information packet. Both programs start in the spring semester each year, although you should be taking ASL classes prior to that. The ASLI Certificate Program is recommended for those who hold an Associate’s Degree or higher.
To be considered for admission into the ASLI Certificate or AAS Degree Program an applicant must complete the following:
- Attend an American Sign Language Interpreting (ASLI) Program Advising Session. Check the advising session page for dates and times of these sessions, and make sure to RSVP for your session to secure your spot using the directions provided. If you cannot make the advising session, you may contact the Program Coordinator for individual advising. It is required that an applicant attend an advising session or have individual advising within a 12-month period prior to the application deadline. For AAS degree students, contact Carla Johnson in the Counseling and Advising Office for advising on general education requirements.
- Complete the College of DuPage General Admissions Application online or in person at the College of DuPage Office of Admissions and Outreach, Student Services Center (SSC), Room 2207. If you have previously been admitted to College of DuPage, you can omit this step. This application is for general admissions to College of DuPage only; it is not an application to the ASLI Program. Visit the Admissions Policies page for application fee information.
- To ensure that all of your eligible credits are evaluated towards the admission requirements turn in all official Transcripts from any schools that you have attended. Please follow these steps: (1.) Submit your official transcript(s). Contact your previous institution(s) to order an official copy of your transcript to be sent to the College of DuPage, Office of Student Records (Student Resource Center, Room 2150), 425 Fawell Blvd, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137-6599. If College of DuPage is the only institution you have attended, you do not need to request official transcripts. (2.) Verify receipt of your transcript(s). Log in to your myACCESS account, click on 'myACCESS', then select 'My Profile'. The receipt status of your transcript will be listed under 'Transcript Institutions'. NOTE: If you have an international transcript from high school or college, it must be evaluated by EDUCATIONAL CREDENTIAL EVALUATORS, Inc. Forms may be obtained from www.ece.org.
- Complete the ASLI Program Application. The deadline to apply has passed.
- Demonstrate proficiency in both expressive and receptive American Sign Language by taking the American Sign Language Proficiency Exam.
- Students must earn a grade of 'C' or above in SIGN 2103 and INTP 2104.
- Student must be enrolled in SIGN 2103 and INTP 2104 for Fall 2019, or these classes must have been completed within the 18-month period prior to the application deadline.
- Students must earn at least a grade of 'C' in all other SIGN and INTP courses; if students are working on the AAS degree, then they also must earn at least a grade of ‘C’ in ENGLI 1101 or 1105, and SPEECH 1100, 1120, or 1150 courses. All prior SIGN and INTP courses must have been completed within the 18-month period before the deadline date.
NOTE: All application documents delivered to College of DuPage pertaining to the ASLI admissions file become the property of College of DuPage and will not be returned to applicants. This includes but is not limited to transcripts, letters of recommendation, evaluation forms and outside test reports.
