Take Flight with Aviation Management

Whether you're aspiring to manage aviation operations or work in the business side of aviation, COD's program provides knowledge, skills and hands-on experience needed to soar.

The Associate in Applied Science degree in Aviation Management offers students two tracks to follow: a flight track to obtain Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certifications to prepare students for a career flying airplanes, and an aviation management track that introduces students to a variety of ground-based jobs in aviation.

Aviation courses teach students aircraft operations, flight instruction, federal aviation regulations, aviation safety principles, aviation meteorology and more.

In addition to classroom instruction, students receive hands-on training inside a Redbird Flight Simulator. The Redbird simulator is a fully enclosed, wrap around visual system that allows students to train in a realistic cockpit during instrument instruction.

Aviation Technology prepares students for a variety of careers in aviation including pilot, air traffic controller, aircraft dispatcher, airline administrator, airport manager, airfield operation specialist or aircraft cargo handling supervisor.

Aviation Management, A.A.S.

The Associate of Applied Science in Aviation Management degree will provide students various aviation industry education and employment opportunities. Students will be exposed to two aviation tracks: one to complete their FAA pilot certifications while completing their degree, and one that focuses on management if the student has already obtained their certifications or does not wish to do so.

Attend an Aviation Program Information Session

Flight Training:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of government regulations and requirements for aircraft operation.
  • Apply learned techniques to airport and airline efficiency.
  • Safely and successfully operate aircraft within the National Airspace System.
  • Demonstrate technical proficiencies with the operations of an aircraft.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with Aviation industry professionals and classmates to accomplish a shared goal of safe Aviation.

Management:

  • Gain an understanding of the aviation industry from outside the cockpit.
  • Recognize the various non-flying vocational opportunities available within the aviation industry.

College of DuPage partners with several four-year institutions to help students seamlessly complete a bachelor’s degree in aviation. Students can connect with Transfer Services for personalized guidance on transfer opportunities.

The pathway outlines a typical two-year course plan for completing an AA or AS degree before transferring to a four-year program. Course requirements vary by institution, so consult your faculty or academic advisor for specific guidance.

Articulation Agreements

College of DuPage maintains transfer agreements with many colleges and universities to ensure a smooth transition toward a bachelor’s degree. These agreements often include a defined course sequence. Students should regularly meet with a faculty member or Advising Services to stay on track.

Transfer Guides

Beyond articulation agreements and guaranteed admission programs, College of DuPage courses transfer to many other institutions. Transfer Guides help students select COD courses that meet prerequisites for specific majors and include details such as contact information, major requirements, general education requirements, and transfer policies.

Federal Officials Highlight $4 Million Aviation Grant

College of DuPage received a $4 million federal grant through the U.S. Department of Education's Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) to support the Aviation Management and Unmanned Aircraft Systems programs.

The funding will expand short-term, for-credit workforce certificates; create new internship and apprenticeship opportunities; and enhance simulation technology and instructional resources for aviation students.

College of DuPage is one of only 17 community colleges nationwide selected to receive FIPSE funding. This investment strengthens employer-aligned aviation education and expands pathways to high-wage, high-demand careers in the aviation industry.
