Launch a Career in Cardiac Care

Electrocardiography (EKG) technicians play a vital role in patient care by performing non-invasive cardiac tests that help detect and monitor heart conditions. Technicians measure pulse and blood pressure, record the heart’s electrical activity, conduct stress tests and perform Holter monitor testing. These procedures produce visual tracings that give healthcare providers critical insight into how the heart is functioning.

The Non-Invasive Electrocardiography certificate program is an intensive, three-semester pathway that prepares students for immediate entry into the workforce. Coursework in both basic and advanced EKG is paired with a clinical experience designed to meet certification and employment standards. The program is ideal for students launching a healthcare career as well as current professionals looking to expand or update their cardiac testing skills.

The program also includes telemetry training, preparing students to monitor patients at risk for abnormal heart rhythms—most often in coronary care and hospital settings. Telemetry technicians play a key role in continuous patient monitoring and early detection of cardiac events.

Non-Invasive Electrocardiography Technician

The Non-Invasive Electrocardiography Technician certificate program prepares students to work in cardiology performing non-invasive cardio graphic tests, including EKGs, holter monitors and treadmill stress testing.

Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to take the Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) exam through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).

Attend an Information Session

Students are expected to provide proof of a Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan prior to the start of the program or clinical start. The insurance plan must cover you throughout the length of your clinical experience, which in most cases, consists of the entire length of the program. If you are in need of Health Insurance, please note the following important dates and visit cod.studentbenefitplans.com.

Important Dates

  • Open Enrollment: Typically opens November through mid-January
    If you will need health insurance ANYTIME within the next year, you must apply during the current open enrollment period.

If you miss open enrollment, but have a qualifying life event, you can still apply during a Special Enrollment Period.

While we cannot guarantee your official acceptance into the program, you need to be aware that there is short timeframe of when you are able to purchase a Health Insurance plan. The purpose of this step is to make you aware and that the time to research and purchase is NOW. Purchasing health insurance outside of this timeframe will take months and may prohibit your admittance into the Program. NOTE: Obtaining Health Insurance is NOT an application requirement but it is a requirement to be in the program.

EKG program graduates will:

  • Exhibit professional standards and compassionate care for the skill set of Non-Invasive Electrocardiography.
  • Apply Now critical thinking skills during the performing Non-Invasive Electrocardiography.
  • Demonstrate competency in appropriate methods of patient approach and identification.
