Who can enroll in the program?
- Students who have completed an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree in Nursing (ADN) at College of DuPage (COD) with a 2.0 GPA or better and hold a current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- New students interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing offered by Governors State University (GSU) at College of DuPage.
- The Nursing at COD is a limited enrollment program. Students should consult with the admission packet.
- Students who graduated from COD's AAS degree in Nursing and went elsewhere can be considered for admission for this 3+1 program if they complete any necessary prerequisites. A transcript evaluation needs to be completed by both schools.
Program Overview
- COD students must complete the ADN program at COD with a cumulative 2.00/4.00 Grade Point Average (GPA).
- GSU will accept up to a maximum of 85 credit hours from College of DuPage.
- The additional COD courses beyond the associate degree with a grade of "B" or higher.
- The remaining 35 credit hours of GSU coursework are completed in the online delivery
format and are offered at a reduced tuition rate.
The Advantage
The 3+1 program allows students to complete their AAS degree from College of DuPage. Once completed, our students are then allowed to take additional courses beyond their degree from COD paying our much lower tuition rates. The final year of classes are taught by Governor's State University faculty and are offered online at a significantly reduced rate, making the goal of continuing an education a reality for more students. This program exemplifies College of DuPage's mission to make education more affordable for its students while stressing academic quality, first-class faculty and extraordinary learning environments.

It is recommended that students using financial aid should begin applying to Governors State University one semester before completing the ADN and ask for the financial aid consortium agreement. Students also need to apply for graduation from the ADN program at COD. Not doing so will result in not receiving financial aid.

- COD courses are not listed in sequence. The ADN degree must be completed and conferred and have valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in order to enroll in the BSN course sequence. Please consult with your COD academic advisor to determine degree requirements and when COD courses should be taken.
- Students using financial aid must complete the associate of ADN degree requirements prior to taking the additional COD coursework.
- Students utilizing financial aid must apply and be accepted into GSU prior to taking any classes beyond the ADN. It is recommended that students using financial aid should begin applying to GSU one semester before completing the ADN and ask for the financial aid consortium agreement. Students also need to apply for graduation from the ADN program at COD. Not doing so will result in not receiving financial aid.
- The AAS degree must be completed and conferred in order to validate this agreement. Refer to the student planning worksheet at www.cod.edu/counseling for COD's AAS degree requirements.
- All transfer course work must be completed with a grade of 'C' or higher. It is important that students carefully select General Education Electives as noted above to maximize transferability. GSU accepts 85 credits in transfer.
- A student must earn a minimum of 120 credit hours to qualify for graduation with a bachelor's degree. At least 35 of the 120 credit hours for graduation must be completed through online delivery at GSU. Students should follow the degree requirements for the catalog year in which they enter GSU.
- In order to satisfy all General Education and AAS Nursing requirements students may complete more than 120 hours.
- GSU reserves the right to evaluate transcripts for any year 1-3 coursework completed at another institution and does not guarantee that courses accepted by COD will be accepted by Governors State University.
- If you are planning on attending full time in the BSN program, you should enroll in the Dual Degree Program in your second semester of the nursing program at COD. Contact the GSU 3+1 representative for more information.
- If you attend full-time you can complete the BSN program in as few as three semesters.
- Students must register and purchase books at Governors State University for all GSU courses.
- Apply to the BSN program by visiting www.govst.edu/Admissions and click "Apply Online." The application deadlines are May 1 (Fall), October 1 (Spring) and February 1 (Summer). Nursing courses start in the fall and spring terms.
