Autismerica

Autismerica is a student organization for neurodiverse students to better educate themselves about COD and socialize in a safe and supportive environment. Our organization is now in its 14th year as a part of COD, and we have helped several chapters open throughout the country at various other higher education institutions throughout the years (but COD was the first). Meetings average between 80 to 120 participants and include board and video games, karaoke, creative opportunities and fun. Parents and community members are also welcome.

Autismerica meetings are a place to socialize in a safe and supportive environment. To create a welcoming space for all, participants must abide by the following guidelines:

Be Safe

  • Refrain from physical contact.
  • Do not share personal contact information if you feel uncomfortable.

Be Respectful

  • Avoid using profanity or insults.
  • Recognize each other’s personal space.
  • Use discretion about discussion topics to value diversity and differences of opinion—It is best to refrain from discussing these topics in an academic and professional setting.*

*Inappropriate topics may include but are not limited to health, religion, politics, vaccinations, immigration, war, sexual/explicit content, sensitive headlines, or other controversial issues.

Be Responsible

  • Consider others when getting treats/food.
  • Clean up after yourself.

Failure to follow these expectations may result in a verbal warning, being asked to leave, or other disciplinary action.

The Autismerica advisors thank you for your cooperation.
