Korean Transfer Pathway, A.A.

What is a Transfer Pathway?

A transfer pathway represents a typical course schedule/sequence for a student planning to complete the A.A. degree within two years, then transfer and major in a specific discipline. A transfer pathway is not institution-specific.

It is important to understand that the pathway provided in the adjacent tab is just one possible combination of classes by which to complete an A.A. and prepare for transfer in your chosen area of study. Other course combinations and sequences can work, too. It is strongly recommended that students work directly and frequently with a COD academic counselor/advisor, a COD faculty advisor, and academic counselors/advisors at potential transfer schools, to develop and execute a plan that works best for them.

The study of Korean offers many benefits including: 

1. Easiest Asian Language 
   The Korean alphabet, Han-gul, is based upon the shapes of the different speech organs-tongue, tooth, lips and throat that are used when pronouncing a sound. Once you become familiar with the pronunciations, you should be able to read Korean words right away.
2. Popularity
   Known as the “Korean wave,” Korean entertainment and culture has become increasingly popular throughout the world. You will better understand Korean pop music, TV dramas and movies by taking the Korean course.
3. Job Opportunities
   Your Korean language skills will open up doors for you when doing business with Korean companies such as Samsung, LG and Hyundai on a global scale. Your Korean language skills will benefit you as an English teacher at the public schools and academies in Korea. You will  become a more competitive candidate by learning formal and informal communication styles, as well as understanding Korean humor.
4. Enjoyment
   Korean classes provide a fun and productive learning environment for effective language learning. You will also be able to make lots of friends in class by performing different activities. This course offers not only language instruction but also opportunities to experience a variety of aspects of Korean customs.

   Korea is a wonderful place to visit. You can see historical landmarks and palaces, shop in luxury malls and at local boutiques, explore beautiful mountains and waterfalls, enjoy hiking, skiing, cycling, and rafting and interact with native Koreans. Korea offers a variety of fresh seafood as well as delicious and nutritious traditional dishes. The Korean course at COD discusses traditional and modern Korean culture that will help you to understand Koreans and enjoy their culture better.

Students who complete courses in any of the Foreign Languages disciplines will:

• Communicate effectively in more than one language in order to function in a variety of situations and for multiple purposes
• Interact with cultural competence and understanding
• Connect with other disciplines and acquire information and diverse perspectives in order to use the language to function in academic and career-related situations
• Develop insight into the nature of language and culture in order to interact with cultural competence
• Communicate and interact with cultural competence in order to participate in multilingual communities at home and around the world
