“It’s the idea that I am able to help invoke changes in a person’s life and help bring
them peace of mind,” he said.
Buzanis chose College of DuPage because the Paralegal Studies program is highly esteemed
in the law community and accredited by the American Bar Association. He developed
a good rapport with the instructors, something he would advise all students to do.
“They all want to nurture a sound, fundamental basis in law and want you to succeed,
so it is best to start off on the right foot,” he said. “I’m thankful for all the
opportunities that have been given to me by all of my instructors. I would not be
in the position that I am in today if it were not for them.”
After earning his certificate, Buzanis began working in the Law Office of Maria V.
Vasos, LLC, which specializes in estate planning and estate administration, litigation,
business contracts, and real estate. He is in charge of estate planning documents,
limited liability companies, legal research and client relations.
“The skills I learned through the College of DuPage Paralegal Studies program have
helped me become an asset to the firm,” he said. “I applied what I learned in Legal
Research and Writing to help an attorney keep an elderly man from being evicted from
his home. On other days, I am helping clients fulfill their dreams of owning their
own businesses. There has yet to be a day that I have been dissatisfied, and I am
learning something new every day. Being a paralegal is a unique experience that has
given me life skills beyond a legal perspective.”
Buzanis ultimately would like to draft laws that create positive change in the community.
He also wants to continue his education and expects COD to be part of that plan.
“College of DuPage has helped me meet my goals through exposure to various fields
of law and a taste of these fields through the professors that have experience in
them. I would not be as prepared as I am today without the Paralegal Studies program,”
he said. “My ultimate educational goals are vast, but whatever they may be, I do plan
on attending COD to help me with them.”
